Raised in the Southern Forest (Boojarah) region of Western Australia, Jaelle Pedroli’s formative years in the Australian bush have shaped a visual language now tangible in her landscape paintings. Through painting, Pedroli connects with the natural world, reflecting on her sense of belonging within the landscapes she inhabits and paints.
Pedroli’s work frequently depicts rivers, coastal thresholds and geological formations, where familiar landscapes are subtly transformed through mark-making and colour to bring forth luminosity and intensify atmosphere. Rocks glow, currents slow or quicken, and natural systems are suspended between observed reality and emotional response to place. These interventions invite viewers to experience the painted landscape not as a static scene, but as a living presence, one that is felt as much as it is seen.
Pedroli creates small en plein air studies throughout the Western Australian landscape, with immersion in place fundamental to her pursuit of capturing its aliveness. In the studio, larger paintings evolve from these studies, moving between lived experience and reflection.
Her practice is an ongoing engagement with the Australian landscape as a living, relational space, shaped by experience, memory and presence.
