About Fremantle Design Week 2024 ‘Transition’
Fremantle Design Week is a biennial festival of design and design ideas.
The second Fremantle Design Week brings seven days of exhibitions, conversations, tours, workshops, films, open studios and special events to Walyalup from 18 – 25 October 2024.
Immerse yourself in the port city. Meet local designers, explore Fremantle’s design spaces and places and see the world through new eyes!
The theme for Fremantle Design Week 2024 is transition. In challenging times, how do we transition the way we think about our world to design a positive future?
Transition is a movement from one state to another. It’s constant as we adapt and respond to environmental, technological, social and economic changes. To design the present and future we need to embrace the new and also revisit the old – FDW2024 brings together a wide range of people and ideas to explore this theme.
Our exciting and diverse program has a local focus and a global outlook, showcasing the talented local design community whilst sharing design ideas from around the world.
Best of all, most of the events are within walking distance of each other in the heart of Fremantle’s West End. See you there!

About Fremantle Design Week
The inaugural Fremantle Design Week was held in October 2022 and was Perth’s and Western Australia’s first design week. The multi-disciplinary design festival has quickly established itself on Western Australia’s design and arts calendar.
Three things converge to make Fremantle Design Week unique.
The first is a highly curated program that invites everyone to engage with design. Not just for the initiated, Fremantle Design Week explores ideas for daily life as well as ideas that are changing the world.
The second is Fremantle’s geography. Fremantle Design Week is a ‘walkable’ festival, embedded in the port city’s heritage streetscapes, industrial spaces, thriving restaurants and bars, and new boutique hotels. It’s a vibe.
And the third is Fremantle’s stellar design community. Freo is home to some of the country’s most awarded architects and designers, alongside a host of emerging creatives. All come together with energy to celebrate design in the West – past, present and future.
Proudly local yet outward-facing, Fremantle Design Week brings together diverse, challenging and entertaining perspectives on design in an accessible format.
About DesignFreo
Fremantle Design Week is presented by DesignFreo, a platform celebrating design and designers in the port city of Fremantle / Walyalup and beyond.
We’re a not-for-profit founded by a group of local designers, makers and doers. We love design, we love our town and we care about its future. We’re interested in how design can bring joy to the everyday and also in how design can tackle the bigger issues facing our communities and planet.
Through its events, DesignFreo creates opportunities to see what designers do, share ideas and join a broader conversation about why it’s important. Good design. Bad design. Who cares and why does it matter? Let’s talk. Visit DesignFreo here and sign up to stay in the loop on events throughout the year.
