A vibrant oil painting depicting a reclining figure within a lush, imagined tropical landscape. The work explores themes of sleep, exile and renewal, using the figure’s rest as a metaphor for withdrawal, displacement and the possibility of recovery.

Dense vegetation gradually overtakes the remnants of a forgotten world, evoking the decline and fall of lost civilisations and the cycles of destruction and renewal within nature. Classical references are combined with an expressive contemporary palette, creating a dreamlike landscape suspended between ruin, memory and regeneration.

Aniketos—meaning “unconquered”—depicts the remnants of a classical civilisation slowly reclaimed by nature. Ancient columns, sculptural fragments and fallen figures emerge from dense tropical vegetation, suggesting a world in decline yet simultaneously undergoing renewal.

The work explores themes of lost civilisations, exile, resilience and the cyclical passage from destruction to regeneration. The vibrant, dreamlike palette contrasts the permanence of stone with the relentless growth of the natural world, where ruins become part of a new living landscape.
