2am close is Taylor Brooks, an interdisciplinary maker based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her work centres around the interplay between interior and exterior worlds, embodiment principles, objects as active social agents, rituals and modern craft practices. Taylor draws on a background in fashion and industrial design, alongside an interest in design research, particularly in how we come to know our objects and the environments these relationships form.
She follows an arts-based approach and is led through dialogues with materiality. Her making practice is articulated by the title 2am close and actualised through a range of mediums, including (but not limited to) metal, cloth, knitwear, timber and paper.

The Hat Pendant floats gently, carrying material presence through texture, adornment, and a cross-pollination of hand and machine processes. Using lost-wax casting, a slumped bronze form is detailed with hanging chimes, each scanned and manipulated from existing objects.

Objects become replicas through scanning and digital distortion before being embedded into lost-wax cast bronze and welcomed into porcelain. Individual surface textures are achieved through the deliberate manipulation of the casting process, making each piece unique and influenced by chance. Porcelain chimes vary between works.
