Open Studio / Philip Stejskal Architecture
Step into the historic Princess Chambers building on Market Street, Fremantle, and explore the studio of Philip Stejskal Architecture. Originally completed in 1899 and once home to the iconic Princess Theatre, this architectural gem, designed by Edwin Summerhayes, now houses a vibrant mix of retail and professional offices, including the creative hub of Philip Stejskal Architecture.
In this open studio event, visitors can experience the intersection of architecture and art. The studio has reconnected with artist Ron Nyisztor, with whom they’ve established a strong creative bond over the years. Together, they’ve transformed the foyer into a dynamic art space, offering a glimpse of the soon-to-be-established contemporary art space on Essex Street.
Philip Stejskal Architecture is passionate about activating the streets of Fremantle, and this event is an invitation to the local community and visitors to engage with their work. Explore architectural models, enjoy the curated art displays, and meet the team behind the designs.
Pop in to say hello and discover the creative energy that drives this local architectural practice.

Philip Stejskal Architecture
Philip Stejskal Architecture approaches design with the philosophy of Gesamtkunstwerk—the idea that every element of architecture and interiors should be thoughtfully crafted to create a harmonious environment for living and working. This comprehensive approach ensures that each project delivers a positive impact, benefiting both clients and the broader community.
The practice is deeply committed to the belief that the benefits of good design should be accessible to all, regardless of occupation, location, income, or stage in life. Inspired by Michael Sorkin’s Bill of Rights for Human Habitation from his book Local Code, the team at Philip Stejskal Architecture champions the right to space, sunlight, fresh air, privacy, community, and sensorial experience in every project they undertake.
Whether working on a terrace home or cottage renovation, a new house, an apartment building, or a public or community structure, Philip Stejskal Architecture consistently brings these guiding principles to life, ensuring each project is a testament to the power of thoughtful, inclusive design.
